I have an apple id that is tied to a defunct email address. I can get as far as changing the password but apple then wants to verify its me by sending me an email to that defunct email address. Frustrating

I should have explained further. I have a working I’d on my current email. The issue is a problem because I have iTunes purchases under the other, defunct, email address so I need to get into that account
