Airpods Pro keep falling out of my ears!

I just got Airpods Pro and they will not stay in my ears for more than a minute or so. I feel them start creeping and I know I have only a second or two before they seem to jump out of my ear as if they were being repelled or something. I have tried every size tip and they all do the same thing. I never had any problems with my old Airpods so this is strange to me. If I don't find a fix I'm going to have to return them as they are basically unusable. Anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions?

This is an excellent idea. Here’s what I just posted:

”250 dollars. That’s what I payed for these. You’re telling me that 250 dollars doesn’t get me earbuds that stay in my ears? That’s outrageous. If I move my mouth at all they get pushed out of my ears. Even if I don’t they make their way out anyway. This is what sets Apple apart from other brands. This doesn’t happen with Apple products. How did this slip through the testing?

My suggestion is that you redesign the tips with a different shape or as foam so they stay in your ears. Then offer that for free to everyone who bought airpods pro, and have it included with the standard version.

People expect a level of quality assurance from Apple and this is ruining that. Before this I could buy any Apple product and be sure it would work as expected. Not anymore.

I lost an AirPods Pro the first week I had them. They would fall out at the slightest turn of my head. Cost 89 bucks to replace. I bought elago AirPod Pro Ear Hooks at Amazon for 13 bucks. I bought red ones which look a little tacky, but I can do yard work and go on walks with out losing AirPods.

I also bought the elago AirPods Pro Earbud cover with tip. They are supposed to help keep the AirPod Pro in your ear without the ear hook, but I would rate them as a slight improvement when used without the hooks, but still risky to move your head much. I now use the ear hook and cover with tip together. AirPods are supposed to last about two years. When I buy new EarPods, I’ll try a much cheaper brand.

PS. I tried all of the ‘fixes’ - push into ear, fit test, twist them at various angles, etc - Apple should let customers know before purchase that there is a strong likelihood that the Airpods won't fit, even with three sizes of tips. Just think - a tiny portion of customers take the time to complain and there are 48 pages of complaints so far.

I’m having this same issue as well.. and it’s really disappointing for how much they cost I feel like they should stay in your ears. I’m constantly having to push them back in and they’re causing my ears to hurt. Because of this I’m going to be returning them. They’re definitely other brands that have great sound quality like these with headphones that actually stay in your ears.

Me too. They go in, pass the “Ear Tip Fit” test, but if I eat anything or move around much, they’re out. I’ve used foam earplugs for flying for years- they don’t fall out, but they are longer, go In farther and expand. I’m going to try memory foam, but I see many posts that they don’t work well and interfere with sound. I put my buds in when I opened this thread, read the previous comments, wrote this and I now feel them getting looser... I haven’t moved at all!! Why don’t they have a foam template you can use to get the right measurement in order to pick the right size and material? Yea, asking way too much.

im looking forward to Tom’s fixing the problem.

in the meantime, in this Year of the Mask, I just secure the pods with my anti covid buff, and off I go.

Another little trick, to safeguard against losing one if it pops out is securing them by the stems with a neck eyeglasses strap, so if one does drop, it’ll fall no further than chest-high.

But y’all knew that.

I got Airpods Pro..The software and the sound is/are fantastic..but they will not stay in my ears for more than a minute or so. I have tried every size tip and they all do the same thing. I never had any problems with my old Airpods so this is strange to me. They are basically unusable outside my home. I've done that dumb "TEST"..but 15min after jamming them into my earholes..they pop out!! its crazy how you don't have a chance to even catch them from hitting the floor.. These are so great however......I will not return them..just too cool..Just put a group of engineers on it Apple!.. spend some of my money..fix this please

EXACTLY. I hope Apple fixes this at some point. It's super annoying. I was just sitting at my desk doing work and listening to music with my AirPods and they fell out. Not to mention that even if they aren't falling out, I keep hearing the plastic rub up against my ears. Good sound quality, but they just don't fit (I'm also on the smallest size).

I just tried pggatineau’s technique of inserting the AirPod Pros upside down (the photo was very useful). For me, it works brilliantly! Thank you!

Interestingly, if I then try to do a tip fit test, my iPhone doesn’t even recognize that the AirPod Pros are in my ears, which makes it impossible to put them in the “Noise Cancellation” mode. Oh well, a (relatively) small price to pay to be able to use my AirPod Pros while keeping them tightly in my ears for an indefinite period of time.

Dec 12, 2020 11:18 AM in response to psglen

I just figured out a way that I can use pggatieneau’s technique of upside down AirPod Pro insertion while fully maintaining the Noise Cancellation mode. If I initially insert them in the usual “stem-down” direction, choose the Noise Cancellation mode in my iPhone, and THEN rotate them to the upside down direction, then Noise Cancellation is maintained.

So after many months of trying, my issue of my AirPod Pro’s falling out is finally resolved, and I’m back to being glad I made the initial purchase.

Yes, clearly Apple can’t design universal AirPods that will work even for deformed and warped ear-flaps...but aren’t you bothered by the sound being up side down? ;-) just kidding.

But seriously:

I tried that, and while it’s true it stays in better because the appendages hook into the ear pinna, the plugs themselves are off center, there is space around the edges, and hence the noise reduction doesn’t work. I didn’t pay for the pro version to have to figure a way for them to just stay in with the loss of sound quality.

I have been told by a relative that removing the hair in my ear before using them works. I bought an ear hair remove from amazon that fits inside my ear canal and it does a credible job of removing the hair- then take an alcohol swab and with the ear pod pro down good to remove any lubricants and do the same with a q tip dipped in isopropyl alcohol ( walmart) in the ear canal.- do the ear test suggested by apple and they should be good to go until you start sweating.

Airpods Pro keep falling out of my ears!
