iPhone 11 - High temperature warning but cool to touch?

While at work today, I tapped on my iPhone 11 screen to check my notifications but my screen just had the high temperature warning on it: "iPhone needs to cool down before you can use it."

Now, my phone was only sitting on my desk not being used and my office is kept around 70 degrees. The phone was cool to the touch. Is this something to worry about?

Hi ksbatt,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. I understand that your iPhone displayed a temperature warning screen. I can help provide you additional information.

The temperature warning screen may appear if the interior temperature of the device exceeds normal operating range. This can happen in certain situations. Details are outlined in this helpful article: Keeping iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch within acceptable operating temperatures

Kind regards.

ksbatt,

Thanks for getting back to us.

If there's no activity while your iPhone 11 is displaying the temperature warning screen, I suggest reviewing the battery health section on your iPhone. You'll want to see if the Maximum Capacity and the Peak Performance Capability is in a good state and that there's no indication of an issue with the battery. To review that, you can go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health. For additional details, you can reference the section of this article that says, "Battery Health.": iPhone Battery and Performance

Now if everything checks out okay, the next step is to ensure that your iPhone is updated to iOS 13.2.3. This helps provide software improvements on your device, along with enhanced security updates. From there, you can monitor and see if you continue to view the temperature warning screen.

Kind regards.
