Would you return your iPhone 4 to get the iPhone 4.1 on September ?

Hi all,

The question is simple : would you return your current iPhone 4 to get the iPhone 4.1 on September ? I had to give the revised iPhone 4 a name , as Mr.Jobs did not deny the hardware revision of the phone in the Q&A session of today's presentation.
I have the iPhone 4 and the Bumper, no signal issues with the case on, but a hardware-fixed phone sounds much better, what would you do if you were in my situation?

Many thanks..

People are stupid if they honestly believe Apple's going to release new hardware for the iPhone 4. The only new iPhone hardware they're probably working on is next year's model.

Would you Apple zealots use some common sense for once in your lives? There is a reason behind everything and the September 30 date was not arbitrarily chosen out of the blue. It gives Apple more than enough time to tweak the manufacturing process and silently ship new phones to their stores and partners. Do you really think the white phone was delayed because they ran out of supplies or are having trouble manufacturing the white glass? Of course not. Anyone who truly thinks Apple wasn't aware of the antenna problem is an idiot.

If the tweak works, lo and behold, Apple will announce that new customers will no longer need free cases because Apple has done what no other mobile phone company has been able to do: triumph over physics. The reality is that new hardware revisions will have insulated the antenna and Apple will likely time the announcement with an OS update to make it seem like it was a software problem all along. Not so far-fetched after all the BS Apple has spewed in the last 2 weeks and it's certainly the lengths a company that doesn't want to admit to any wrongdoing would go to.

You think they're going to announce all that? No. Doing so would completely cannibalize their sales, in addition to admitting liability. Think, for God's sake.

I'll have to agree with you. I've worked for a number of electronics manufacturers. This is how they do things to avoid problems.

Apple will silently slip "fixed" models into the supply chain over time. It's how every other electronics manufacturer I've worked for has done things. Companies always do this. It's pretty much the norm.. They can slip new revisions into the supply chain and they don't have to differentiate these new revisions.

If anyone else here is familiar with some of the LCD monitor manufacturers, you'll know new revisions are being released all the time with nary a peep from the manufacturer.

Dell does it with their top of the line monitors, Cisco / Linksys does it with their routers, Canon does it with their cameras, etc..

But it is not something they can hide. People will notice right away if the problem is fixed in futurere releases or the with white iphone. Will be all over the news. Then there will be chaos because it will be past the 30 day return policy, but everyone is protected by 1 year warranty if there is a problem. So the original iphone folks will make genius appointments to exchange the phone, demanding the corrected revision because they can prove there is a problem by holding phone in a certain way. Hence a recall of a sort. right?
That's what will happen if they change the design. So I doubt they will. Must be an all or none situation.

OMG This is nutz this used to be a great forum for helping each other...let's get this straight

If you put your hand on an antenna it messes up your signal on ANYTHING!
If you drop something made of glass it BREAKS!
If your stupid enough to not put a $600 phone in a case things get MESSED UP!
If you think Apple tried to rip you off just RETURN YOUR IPHONE!
If you think ATT has a flawless network think AGAIN!

Bottom line if you don't like apple that's FINE!
But let's not just bash them for things they did not do...... If you hate them RETURN YOUR PHONE!

Everything has flaws get use to IT!
Still the best smartphone on the market PERIOD!

I would definitely take mine back, especially if I continue to experience periodic, yet annoying cell signal problems. Why wouldn't I take it back and get a potentially "better" one in terms of this problem...I mean it's not going to be worse than the one I have right?

Also, the guy mentioned in the very first post that he has to give the potential hardware revised iPhone a name - that name being iPhone 4.1 - which is not related in any way to the iOS.

Haha noobs - the kid can't even read.

You said it all - as Steve said the other day, the whole thing has been blown totally out of proportion because of what I think is jealousy. It's so sad that a tiny minority of people get their kicks from putting down success.

We all know that there is Apple and then there is everything else. It's been like that since System 1, since iPod 1, and iPhone 1.

If there were to be an iCar (Steve, please make one for the rest of us!) there is no question it would be a unique, superior product.

So, everyone, PLEEEESE enjoy your phones and stop the whining!

My take on the thought after hearing SJ mention September was that Apple was going to re-evaluate the situation and possibly make a hardware change which would permanently fix the 'Antennagate," thus ending the free case program for new iPhone 4s purchased after "x" date. Since I have no antenna problems, I would not return mine though.

I doubt it would be released as "iPhone 4.1" or be anything like a normal iPhone release (with a keynote, etc.) I suspect apple would make note of it and quietly end the program for the free cases on the website, and make some sort of press release that they have revised the hardware to fix any possible antenna problems.

Also, a a personnal note, I've to admit that I'm surprised by the number Steve Jobs provided for the iPhone 4 users using a case. He said only 17% of iPhone 4 users are using a case (apparently), and considering the increased fragility of the iPhone 4 compared to the iPhone 3GS, that's amazing that so few people care about a such expensive phone. It is ever more justified to use a case on the ipphpne 4 than on previous iPhones, and there are cases that are translucid and very unobstructove and so let users protect their iPhone while still being able to fully appreciate the iPhone 4 design.

And of course he knew this number how when there are a number of after-market companies making them?

I am not returning mine. This is my first iphone and i certainly love it. I have owned HTC Win Mo phone before. And i really hate them now after using IP4. My suggestion would be if you have a defective ip4 and the defect is something that you can live with do not exchange right now. Wait till October if they change hardware or coat antenna than go and exchnage it and may be you have the latest hardware without any issue.

They were probably going by the number of people that bought a case at the same time as the phone.

The problem I found is that I think the high street shops under estimated the demand for cases for the new phone. Out of 6 mobile phone shops in my local high street, I only found an iPhone 4 case in one of them when I bought my phone, about a week after launch. It was also the last case that had.

A lot of folks are saying "just return your iPhone 4."

Don’t do it! It could become a collector’s item in a few short months when the correctly manufactured iPhone slides silently into the pipeline (oh, yes they will!).

Just imagine the possible return on investment when you have one of these super-rare, original flawed iPhone 4’s with the antenna issue that was “not an issue” according to Apple but proved to be an issue by Consumer Reports and then finally accepted to be an issue by Apple that required a press conference, but during the press conference became a non-issue again, for which you could get a free bumper that would fix the imaginary issue. Phew! That was hard to keep that straight. Now I know why Mr. Jobs got so confused.

Anyhoo, having the original flawed iPhone will be just like having a Ford Edsel, or a McDonald’s Arch Deluxe, or even a can of New Coke. All high-larious classic blunders by otherwise brilliant companies.

I’m telling you, this phone will become a collector’s item for future generations to admire and poke fun of. So make room some on your shelf next to that Gigli DVD for your flawed iPhone 4. Just don’t touch it because that can bring down the value (not to mention the signal).

Would you return your iPhone 4 to get the iPhone 4.1 on September ?
