Would you return your iPhone 4 to get the iPhone 4.1 on September ?

Hi all,

The question is simple : would you return your current iPhone 4 to get the iPhone 4.1 on September ? I had to give the revised iPhone 4 a name , as Mr.Jobs did not deny the hardware revision of the phone in the Q&A session of today's presentation.
I have the iPhone 4 and the Bumper, no signal issues with the case on, but a hardware-fixed phone sounds much better, what would you do if you were in my situation?

Many thanks..

Maybe it is the same old iPhone 4 with coated antennae? The logical thing is that Apple would want to sell the stock they already have of the current iPhone 4 before introducing the new revised devices with no need of free cases any more.

That's certainly possible. But on the question of waiting I guess it depends both whether using a case (or some transparent tape) is a deal breaker for you (for me I need it anyway because the glass is fragile and I take my phone all over where sooner or later it may fall). It also depends on how badly you want the new phone -- if not in a hurry then waiting is good to let other issues come to light (and maybe get fixed).

I wouldn't return mine. Like you, I have a Bumper on it and have no real issues. The issues I had before I put the Bumper on weren't that bad, and they really didn't bother me. I don't feel like what I've bought is somehow diminished or spoiled by the antenna issue. I feel good when I hold it in my hand and use it, so I have nothing to motivate me to return it.

People are stupid if they honestly believe Apple's going to release new hardware for the iPhone 4. The only new iPhone hardware they're probably working on is next year's model.

Would you Apple zealots use some common sense for once in your lives? There is a reason behind everything and the September 30 date was not arbitrarily chosen out of the blue. It gives Apple more than enough time to tweak the manufacturing process and silently ship new phones to their stores and partners. Do you really think the white phone was delayed because they ran out of supplies or are having trouble manufacturing the white glass? Of course not. Anyone who truly thinks Apple wasn't aware of the antenna problem is an idiot.

If the tweak works, lo and behold, Apple will announce that new customers will no longer need free cases because Apple has done what no other mobile phone company has been able to do: triumph over physics. The reality is that new hardware revisions will have insulated the antenna and Apple will likely time the announcement with an OS update to make it seem like it was a software problem all along. Not so far-fetched after all the BS Apple has spewed in the last 2 weeks and it's certainly the lengths a company that doesn't want to admit to any wrongdoing would go to.

You think they're going to announce all that? No. Doing so would completely cannibalize their sales, in addition to admitting liability. Think, for God's sake.

Sorry but Steve Jobs DID confirm that there will be NO hardware fix of any sort on the iPhone 4.

The only solution Apple is providing is free bumpers and the 4.0.1 software update, nothing more.

Also, a a personnal note, I've to admit that I'm surprised by the number Steve Jobs provided for the iPhone 4 users using a case. He said only 17% of iPhone 4 users are using a case (apparently), and considering the increased fragility of the iPhone 4 compared to the iPhone 3GS, that's amazing that so few people care about a such expensive phone. It is ever more justified to use a case on the ipphpne 4 than on previous iPhones, and there are cases that are translucid and very unobstructove and so let users protect their iPhone while still being able to fully appreciate the iPhone 4 design.

Did you not actually listen to what Steve said?
All phones have signal attenuation-no one in the industry knows how to solve this-all phone manufacturers are working on it-MAYBE apple will be the first to solve it, who knows.

Direct quote from Q&A:
Q: Is there a hardware redesign in this generation that could fix this problem?

A: You can go on the web and look at pictures of Nokia phones that ship with stickers on the back that say "don't touch here" -- you can go on YouTube and see these. We should you three phones today, all good phones. So right now the state of the art of the entire industry is that no one has solved this problem. Would I like Apple to be first? Yes. Can we make it better right now? Maybe, we'll see.
