Changing text color on the fly in Notes

Before upgrading to Catalina, I could change text color as I type within Notes without disturbing the position of the cursor. Now, when I choose a different text color from my favorites on the color wheel (itself a mouse or touch pad move away from the keyboard), the cursor disappears from the note forcing me to reset the cursor at the insertion point before I can resume typing. If I continue typing after clicking the new color (as my habit), there's an annoying sound to alert me that I can't resume typing without replacing the cursor. As I frequently change color as I type, this glitch (what I perceive to be a glitch) is annoying and slows me down. Can anyone help?

Hello cjeffes,

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities. I understand that you’re having trouble changing colors while typing in the Notes app as you have done before upgrading to Catalina. I know how important it can be to keep things color coordinated.

I just tested this out on my own Mac which is running macOS Catalina. I went to Format > Font > Show Colors and left the colors window open. I could click to change a color while typing, and not have to reposition the cursor in the note. If you haven’t tried leaving the window open, see if that helps.

Also, if you haven't already done so, quit the Notes app, and restart your Mac. Be sure to go to the Apple logo in the top left corner of the screen and then select restart. Test it out after restarting and see if there is any change.

If you're still having to reposition the cursor in the Note, let me know if this is happening in new notes or in ones which are being edited? If you’ve only tried in existing notes, see what happens in a new one.

Cheers!
