Creating a bootable usb disc for High Sierra

I was finally able to download the High Sierra installer thanks to the good tips from you fellow users. I have now loaded it onto one of the partitions of my internal drive, leaving my current working version of Sierra (10.12.6) on another partition.

All seems well with High Sierra install and I will now assess whether to migrate all my files, apps, etc. from Sierra to the High Sierra partition using my Timemachine backup.

However, I have attempted to create a bootable USB installer following the instructions from the Apple website and cannot get it to work.

Here are the instructions:

How to create a bootable installer for macOS

You can use an external drive or secondary volume as a startup disk from which to install the Mac operating system.

These advanced steps are primarily for system administrators and others who are familiar with the command line. You don't need a bootable installer to install macOS, but it can be useful when you want to install on multiple computers without downloading the installer each time.

Download macOS

Download a macOS installer.* You can find the appropriate download link in the upgrade instructions for macOS Catalina, macOS Mojave, macOS High Sierra, macOS Sierra, and OS X El Capitan.

• If the macOS installer opens after downloading, quit it without continuing installation.

• macOS Sierra and El Capitan download as a disk image that contains an installer named InstallOS.pkg or InstallMacOSX.pkg. Run this installer before continuing.

• If downloading macOS Catalina, macOS Mojave, or macOS High Sierra for the purpose of creating a bootable installer, your Mac must be using macOS Sierra 10.12.5 or later, or El Capitan 10.11.6. Enterprise administrators, please download from Apple, not a locally hosted software-update server.

Then find the installer in your Applications folder as a single ”Install” file, such as Install macOS Catalina.

I did everything according to the instructions, but do not find the "install" file in my Applications folder.

Any tips on what I am doing wrong and how I can create the bootable installer?

Thanks.

I did download the installer as a separate event after having installed the High Sierra update.

I did so by starting up using option-command-R, waited until the installer downloaded from the web , ran Reinstall macOS and when the High Sierra logo appeared, I quit Reinstall and then shut down. I also tried shutting down without quitting Reinstall however neither approach worked. After each approach I restarted and went to the Applications folder, but found nothing.

Totally confused as I think I followed the directions.

Connecting to the Mac App Store

When I connect to the link you provided I am directed to a page that has the following wording:

Connecting to the Mac App Store.

To use the Mac App Store, you need Mac OS 10.6.6 or greater. For more information, please click here.

In turn, this link opens iTunes and my music starts!!!

What am I supposed to do at this point????

Sorry to be so dense on this matter.
