Apple CarPlay doesn't have widgets or home screen?

Whenever I plug my iPhone X with iOS 13 into my Car that has CarPlay support, I don't get that home screen that contains multiple app widgets, all I see is a list of my apps. My friend has an iPhone 8 and whenever he plugs his phone in it comes up with the home screen interface with the widgets. How do I get my Apple CarPlay to have the home screen menu in my car?

You can toggle between those two views - the one with the icons and the one with the tiles - by tapping the button in the lower left hand corner of the CarPlay screen.
