MacBook 16-inch Fan Noise

We are testing two new 16-inch MacBook's before doing a rollout across our organization. Under low loads (25% cpu utilization), fan noise will get annoyingly loud. We're not doing any GPU related and more routine work such as: using web applications, debugging web pages, Microsoft Teams conferencing (audio/video) with a handful of people, Photos downloading from iCloud, Mac Mail downloading a new mailbox from Exchange.

We DID NOT notice this on our 2015 MacBooks and this might prevent us from continuing the 16-inch MacBook rollout in our organization.

Interested to hear others experiences.

I am coming also from a 2016 MBP without any issue. The defected MBP 16 inches with a terrible fan noise is useless.

I have no more hope that Apple will resolve the issue. That is why I am looking for an alternative. Is there any alternative to this product at Apple right now?

1-We can forget about the old MBP with the keyboard issues .

2- I have read also that the IMacs with latest CPUs has fan noises. It is an old designed product (10 years old) and the system was not developed for current CPUs. Also maybe Apple bring a new IMac this year. This new 2020 IMac could be a good solution, if it works.

3- IMac Pro too expensive.

4- MacPro also too expensive.

5- Mac Mini . Anyone has experience with this product ? Do we have fan noise issues and overheating with the Mac mini? Any experience Mac Mini, Logic Pro and for sure with a connection to an external Display?.

* It is not necessary that the people in this forum working for the big corporation to answer my question. They are not objective.

Funny, I use mine daily and I love it, as do untold thousands of others, so I guess it's not quite "useless."

It has an issue where in a specific use case more heat than desired is generated and the fans ramp up to cool the device, and some people find that objectionable, I get it.

That might make it useless for you, but certainly not for many.

"That's perfectly reasonable; no computer is the right solution for every customer."

What if I told you that there are more brands than Apple? The current Lenovo Thinkpads works great on Linux for most Devs and Devops.

"I would also state again that if multiple monitors are crucial, an iMac, iMac Pro or Mac Pro would be the better choice in your situation."

No it is not as we can't take them with us for meetings, travels, oncall duty and stuff like this. Please stop judging about situations and people you do not know. There are big issues with many affected customers.

I had three 2016 MBP and had nothing but problems from the day they were opened and they all get sent back for various reason (one had the entire guts and screen replaced at no charge). Two got returned and I got a 2018 MBP. Then a 2019 15" and then a 2019 16". The 16" is by far the quietest for me when working on video and other heavy tasks and with dual 4k screens. I know from experience that you can get a bad one (or two or three).

Haha, hilarious! The Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Extreme versions 1 and 2 have horrible thermals. People on Reddit constantly complain about fan noise, short battery life (far lower than what Lenovo claims. No news there!) they get very hot and the screens have some of the worse backlight bleed of any laptop in the industry. Top that off Lenovo is second to dead last in customer service according to Laptop Magazine last year mid summer.

Linux is wonderful, but it's hard to get Photoshop or Logic Pro to work.

Then buy a Mac Pro for the office and an MBP for travel - problem solved.

I realize there is a budget hit, but productivity may make up for it, depending upon your industry.

"Do you realize Apple markets the 16inch MacBook Pro with Thunderbolt 3 to support up to FOUR - 4k monitors or TWO - 6k monitors?

Why would you tell people, if you need a monitor buy another computer?"

Wow so much blown out of proportion text here. From what I was reading he was recommending a different solution for those here who can't deal with the fan noise. At no point did he state that the 16" MBP is not designed for external monitor use. Lordy!

Are you listening to yourself? Why should somebody spend more than double the price because an expensive Laptop can't do what is not only adverted but an incredible basic task? We are speaking about an external monitor! We currently run over 150 MBPs, we won't make it 300 Macs, that's so ridiculous that it's not even worth the discussion.

Actually he has mentioned it or inferred it many times in this thread. In addition, you won't answer simple questions which leads many of us to believe you're not even using a 16inch MBP.

Anyway, YouTube is becoming more and more populated with users experiencing. It's only the two of you DPJ and William who believe it isn't.
