No, it is Roku platform. Apple simply created the app and came to the agreement with Roku for it to be available for their device. It is then Roku who decides which of their models can support the app. It has nothing to do with Apple. Again, you would need to ask Roku if you want an answer.
Apple TV App–Supported Devices

Roku:
Then they would be the ones giving misinformation, and first line responders are notorious for doing so. Apple only has control over which platforms their app and/or airplay is added to, once they have come to an agreement with the manufacturer then it is completely up to that manufacturer as which of their hardware they support. Apple has nothing to do with which individual models of those devices the app/airplay receive support. For instance, LG decided to only include airplay 2 support for their 2019 and newer TVs, while Vizio supported models as far back as 2016.
The app itself is free, you would be only paying for a subscription to a service available within that app. It is also clear which models are supported so one can see that prior to subscribing, and it has a trial so one would have time to discover that prior to billing in either case.
Those are the facts, and the evidence speakers for itself. However, you are free to continue to believe otherwise. Since it is evident that is the intent of this thread I will leave you to discuss this on your own.
It would be Roku's decision as to what models they supported so best to clarify with them.
That's not true. It is up to Apple
This is mind boggling to me. I just got all excited to subscribe and finally start watching the shows I had heard about, only to find out it’s not supported on the Roku 4...one of the better roku models and the best model at the time I bought it, and the lesser devices are supported lol wut. Huge fail on Apple’s part.
Why would it be Rokus decision when it it Apples, Platform? Its a very big fail on Apple and thier app for deciding what Roku models they support, would it not?
AppleTV lists my Roku device (details below) as supported. However, after Roku takes me to the AppleTV home screen, it will not play any of the videos I select. I can bring up the entire menu, but it always shows this message: This Show Not Available. Try Again Later.
Roku Name: Express+
Serial number:YG*****215

So, I did as you suggested, went to Roku support, and followed their instructions. Nothing changed or worked. This was their final say on the issue:
"If after attempting the suggestions above, you are still unable to play videos from one channel while videos from other channels play fine, contact the channel provider's customer support team to report the issue and get help."
Puts the ball right back in your court. Will you two stop passing the buck and connect with each other to get this fixed? I was charged for a month of AppleTV that I could not watch, and I WANT A REFUND.
Maybe we need to contact Nicole Kidman and tell her no one can watch her new series...

I have Roku3. Since accepting free year subscription with purchase of iPhone 11, Apple TV doesn’t work. All video content cones up “unavailable”. All trouble shooting performed still no better. Movie started and 10 secs in “unavailable”. Managed to finally watch an episode of Pennyworth but when the second episode was due to start it went “unavailable” again.
works like charm on my ph but I don’t want to stare at small screen. Definitely not going to subscribe when trial is over. What a waste.
Apple TV Plus is for Apple originals only, Pennyworth is not part of that. It was either available to you as part of another subscription or was purchased through iTunes, and you would need to contact the appropriate person to have the issue looked into.
please advise what is the difference between a Roku 464OX and the Roku 464OR. It will not run Apple TV?
Roku Said it up to Apple. So come on one is not tell us the truth. I paid a lot for my 4400x. And I pay for the Apple TV app
Roku says it's an apple support problem. So...What now?
It seems neither cares one way or the other at this point. However, I don't think we should be bumping heads with each other. Just trying to figure out where to step next.
This is a user forum, no one here works for Apple. The situation of this thread has to do with those who don't have a compatible device, which is based on Roku's decision. You have a completely separate issue, where you have the app and are just having an issue with it's function.
In order to have that issue looked into you would need to do as advised and contact Apple support. If you are unhappy you can cancel future payments. As for refunds, you would need to contact iTunes and request one but as the terms state that sales are final it would be up to their discretion.
