Muffled microphone during calls

Hey everyone, so I have an iPhone 7 and for some reason during calls or FaceTime people can barely hear me whether I’m on speaker or not and have said it sounds like I’m muffled or speaking far away. I’ve tested my microphones using voice memo and the camera like apple suggested in its tips and I sound perfectly clear in each of those tests. Idk what’s going on and wondered if anyone had any tips. P.s I know I’m not covering up any of the microphones when I’m on the phone so that can’t be it. Thanks!

Hello ebony76.

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. I understand that when on calls or using FaceTime that you sound low or muffled. You have tested the microphone by recording voice memos and sound fine. I’m happy to help.

Are you using a protective case or protective screen cover on your phone? If so, remove these to test to see if you’re being heard as expected?

Please also try the additional steps here: If you hear no sound or distorted sound from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch speaker - Apple Support

If you still sound muffled, the next steps will be to locate the nearest service provider here and have an Apple Technician inspect your iPhone: Apple - Find Locations - Location Selector

Take care.
