Why would I receive verification codes if I’m not attempting to use a new device?
I received two verification codes, one after another, and I was just sitting here using my phone. Is someone using my account?
iPhone XR, iOS 13

Sorry, apparently I added it to another thread: Avoid phishing emails, fake 'virus' alerts, phony support calls, and other scams - Apple Support

Have you ever shared your Apple ID with anyone?
If not, are you doing something on another Apple device? Or perhaps you're doing something on the iPhone (in Safari, for example) requiring an Apple ID login?
Occasionally your identity is rechecked.
What am I expected to do with the code?
I downloaded a free app for Bose, but there was quite a lag time. Like a LOT of lag time.
I never share ID’s. People would have my phone number. Maybe someone was using my number by mistake?
Your phone number has nothing to do with a verification request.
Okay. It’s how I received the code in a text.
Can you post what the text looked like? Who was the sender? Verification codes aren't usually sent as texts.
I've never gotten one that looks like that from Apple so I don't think it is real. Read the link I provided.
I appreciate your response.
And thank you sberman, too.
I’m not seeing the link, though.
I don’t think it’s real either. After all, Apple would very likely send an iMessage, not a text message. And I don’t see deggie’s link either.
