Connecting audio-out to an amp on my 2010 Mini

I have a mid-2010 Mini and I'd like to connect the audio-out to my stereo amp to get the benefit of the speakers. Apple specs says the Mini has "Audio line out/headphone minijack (digital/analog)." My amp has several unused audio/video device slots with video and audio in and out connections. I am thinking I can use a 3.5mm to2 RCA cable; plug the 3.5 into the mini, and the RCA connectors into an audio -in on the amp. Will this work, and do I need a particular kind of cable to do this?

When it comes to external DACs, how good they are depends on

how big your wallet is. Then there is also the point with many where the

amount of money spent on audio gear magically improves their hearing

in direct proportion.

Assuming you aren't in that group, most mid-cost DACs will produce

a higher quality audio than the built in DAC of the Mini, which isn't all

that bad.

Whether it is worth the money or not depends on your music source.

If it is made up of AAC/256Kbps or MP3, it makes no sense to spend

any more money than the analog adapter cable. If your sources

are higher quality uncompressed PCM format, even if it is just

16bit/48KHz, a better DAC may be something to consider.

It's an older amp and doesn't have n optical/TOSLINK input. So could this work? use a DAC (like a Techole advertised on Amazon); connect the Mini to the DAC with either a 3.5mm to TOSLINK cable, or a 3.5mm to a digital audio coax cable; and then connect the DAC to the stereo amp with a standard RCAx2 cable? If so, would the audio only be "a bit better quality"? By the way, I love my Mini.
