OS X could not be installed on your computer after factory restore

I was trying to factory restore my mac air and the final part was to reinstall my OS. I go to reinstall my OS and the message “OS X could not be installed on your computer. No packages were eligible for install. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance. Quit the installer to restart your computer and try again”. I’ve tried that common method of changing the date but it doesn’t work. Can someone help me or is my system bricked?

If more detail is needed: I did not make a time machine back up since the mac was already backed up before I factory reseted

Hey _714,

I understand you're looking to reinstalling macOS after erasing the drive, but you're seeing an error message. I'll be happy to help out with this.

Have you also tried starting from macOS Recovery using the Internet? If not, try that now to see if you're able to reinstall macOS without an issue. You can do this by pressing and holding Option-Command-R or Shift-Option-Command-R at startup. More info here: About macOS Recovery - Apple Support.

If that still gives the same error, you can try reinstalling macOS using another method. The steps for that are under "Other ways to install macOS" here: How to reinstall macOS from macOS Recovery - Apple Support.

Have a great day.
