I see that the badge icon you're have turned on for the Messages application isn't updating after you've read a message, and I'm glad to help.
Filter, block, and delete messages on iPhone -- Open the Messages application and see if there are any unread in the "Unknown & Junk" tab.
Use notifications on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch -- If there weren't any unread in that tab, turn off notifications for the Messages app, then restart your iPhone: Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. Once it's returned to the Home screen, turn notifications back on for Messages and see if the badge icon has updated.
