For the "USB Accessories" security feature, what counts as an "unlock" with regards to the hour-long timer?

This question is about the "USB Accessories" feature, which is toggled from the Face ID & Passcode section of the iPhone's settings. The in-menu description states that your iPhone will need to be unlocked to make connections with USB accessories "when it has been more than an hour since [it] was locked." The support section of the Apple website words it a bit differently: "If you don’t first unlock your password-protected iOS device—or you haven’t unlocked and connected it to a USB accessory within the past hour..."

Between these two descriptions, I'm not 100% sure what exactly is considered an "unlock" for the purposes of resetting the hour-long timer. Does the timer reset if

A) you unlock your iPhone at all, for any reason? or

B) you unlock your iPhone specifically to connect to a USB accessory, i.e. you unlock your phone after being requested to do so upon connecting a USB accessory?

Can someone confirm which it is? Thank you.
