I have been struggling with the WiFi on my iphone 4 since I received it. It will download a lot of websites without any problems, but some websites it will just get "Stuck" and run and run, with eventually an error message saying the page cannot be opened. I thought maybe this was specific to particular websites, but I found out differently. I still have my iPhone 3Gs, and connected it to WiFi right next to the iPhone 4. The web pages (Example: Youtube) would load videos and play them lightening fast on the iPhone 3Gs. At the exact same time, the iPhone 4 would attempt to load the video for about 10-15 seconds, and give me an error message, "Video format not supported". When I switched the WiFi off on the iPhone 4 and used AT&T service only, it played the video almost just as quick as the iPhone 3Gs connected to WiFi. I have repeated this problem over and over again, and receive the same results. The iPhone 3Gs always downloads without hesitation, the iPhone 4 always stops responding or results in an error message. NOTE: Both devices always show full strength in WiFi connection, and I am sitting right next to my WiFi router. Again, iPhone 3Gs always downloads with no problems, iPhone 4 always stops downloading and creates an error, specifically on the YouTube web site, and the YouTube application. Does anyone else have this problem? I have owned every model of the iphone, and never had this problem until the iPhone 4? Please let me know what could cause his issue, thanks.
Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings...or under WiFi delete your current settings & then re-establish your WiFi connection. If the problem persists, make an appointment at an Apple store.
Also having terrible wifi problems as well as bluetooth. No amount of troubleshooting, resetting has helped. 3G was stable both on home wifi and car bluetooth. 4 has chronic problems on both. Can't run Facetime on home wifi, but other 4 users don't have a problem on same network. Seems to be a defect. It happens, time to visit store.
Actually I seemed to have fixed my issue by restoring back to factory settings, and also powered down my router for a while and then powered it back up. Who knows is that will last, but it's worked for a couple days now.
im new...man i had exactly the same issue...i also changed it to the -b mode and now it works with my iPhone 4...its kind of strange because with my old iPhone 2G I alway got perfect download speeds with -b and -g mode turned on..and when i changed my iPhone 4 to the -g mode it wont work neither...can somebody explain this?
I read many posts on how to fix my wifi on my iPhone 4 the only fix that has worked is to switch my home network to B only, and it worked. How should I deal with this problem? I don't have the ability to switch network types at work or elsewhere? Do I need to exchange my iPhone 4 for a new one?
Have you tried different routers? My (now to be old) is the only one that hasn't worked. It's a Netgear WGR614 v6. All others I've tried are ok. Actually just got back from a Mac store with a brand new Airport Extreme and it works fine with default settings. Happy to give Apple additional money 🙂
Same problem here with the iPhone 4, heck, it took me 3 minutes to log in to discussions. YouTube videos take a long time at best and often they stall out completely. My old 3GS didn't have these problems.
I've reset the iPhone, I've cleared safari's cache, I've reset the network (and by the way, that's no solution, who wants to have to log in to their network every time they want to use wifi?) and it's not the proximity, I can put the phone next to my airport express and still get the same problems.
I used to have these problems with my 1st gen phone but they were fixed with a software update.
