How can this phone be called water resistance? I just went to the genius bar I was told that even though the iPhone XS Max maximum depth of 2 meters up to 30 minutes, it is not covered under warranty for water damage?

I wonder if anyone has run into this issue as well. My daughter jumped in my pool with her iphone and quickly came out and dried it. I just confirmed at the store and the iphone Xs Max is marketed as water resistant up to 2 meters for 30 minutes! Now my daughter's phone's screen is no not showing all colors accurately. I took it to the apple store and they did not want to repair it. I don't understand how this is not covered with warranty. I was told that the phone, as time passes, the seals become not as tight. Usually because of people handling it with sweat and perfume?

You need to read the fine print. Every description (even the ads where stuff is sprayed or dropped) comes with disclaimers that liquid damage isn’t covered by the warranty.

The water resistance is also only describing a laboratory standard. Maybe it can take it once. They certainly don’t design it for multiple exposure to liquid or dust.

It’s no more misleading than an SUV commercial

showing a vehicle bouncing over rocks or driving through water. They don’t tell you that filming required a dozen vehicles and just as many tow trucks. The warning on the screen will be that it’s a professional driver on a closed course and “DO NOT ATTEMPT”.
