After the latest update, when I download a file (or export from an application), it is not visible in File Explorer. The only way i can view the file, is to search for it (in EasyFind), select "reveal in Finder", and then it will appear. Plus, when I download a file, the status remains temporary, so I have to add the extension ie. PDF or ZIP to complete the rendering process.

You may have to re-install the OS, but try this first...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode?
Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.
