I’ve received some Apple AirPods and have checked the serial number on the Apple check service and the serial number is registered but there’s no purchase history. What does this mean

Hey there Doodles-40,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. I understand you have some concerns about your AirPods serial number. I’ll be happy to help with this.

Did this happen when using the Check Coverage link provided by Apple? This could mean the AirPods were sold by a third party. If you have any concerns about this, you can review the info in this link for help with your service and coverage options:

"[...]I checked on the Apple check coverage site and they came up as registered but no purchase history. That’s fine as long as they are the authentic ones. Doesn’t bother me too much that they were bought by a third party"

Checking Coverage On Apple Devices:

Next time you plan to purchase an Apple Device off-hand, from a Third-Party, use the link I provided above. That way you can be more certain that the Serial Number Officially Pertains to the Device you are Purchasing and that it is not already registered.

As for Obtaining new Devices:...

So, if available, request and have the prior owner unregister them from their account. If that is not an option, then why purchase them? AY
