iOS 13 on iPad mini 2?

I have an iPad mini 2 and it currently runs iOS 12.4.3. I want it to run iOS 13 because I need an app for school that only runs on iOS 13 or later, but when I try to update, even plugged into a desktop Mac, it says that I’m running the current version of the software and I can’t update it. Do I just have to wait for apple to make a new iOS for my older version of the iPad?

The iPad mini 2 cannot support / get iPadOS 13.

If you want iPadOS 13 on your iPad, you need to purchase a new iPad. Apple releases the new iOS / iPadOS for every device at the same time in September.

See: https://www.apple.com/ipad-10.2/ I can recommend this iPad for your purpose (school).
