Inheriting Time Machine backups

My current 2010 iMac (High Sierra) is backed up with Time Machine switching between two external HD. Will I get the option to inherit the backup history from both Time Machine drives when migrating to my new 2019 iMac (Catalina)? I plan to migrate from the old Mac over my ethernet network.

Access my all Time Machine history (since 2015) from my old Mac on my new MacBook Hi, I bought a new MacBook (less storage) than my old Mac. I got everything backed up with Time Machine (since 2015) and I migrate my data from old Mac to New MacBook using Migration Assistant (From a Time Machine Backup option). I would like Time Machine on my new Macbook access old backups from my old Mac, I want it inherit Time Machine Backups. But when I open Time Machine on my new MacBook with my old-Mac-backup-drive, I can only see backup from Today. Is there a way to make my new MacBook inherit this backup history? Old Mac Time Machine print screen: New MacBook Time Machine print screen: I read about an "Inherit backup history" option, but I cannot find this in MacOS Mojave.

Using an Old backup I have an old MacBook running OS 10.7.5 that I periodically backed up. When I purchased my latest iMac, I transferred the MacBooks HD using a firewire or thunderbolt transfer to the new iMac, now running OS 11.1. I just went to back up the new Mac using the old back up from the MacBook. The name of the old backup automatically appears in the time machine window. Will time machine overwrite the old back up to the current HD from my new iMac?

If you have a lot of data to migrate, then migrating over the network is just asking for trouble. Your best bet, is to plug the most recent Time Machine backup into the new iMac and migrate from it during the initial macOS setup.

To plug either of your standard USB Time Machine backup drives into your new iMac, you will need to get a UCB-C to USB adapter. see > USB-C to USB Adapter - Apple
