Q: Airport Extreme dropping connection

Issue with client's Airport Extreme (one month old) needing to be rebooted 4-5 times daily. Clients lose internet connectivity - both wired and wireless - green light on router. Static IP assigned to router and manually entered. Installed in small office - less than 10 users - all Macintosh. Port forwarding on three ports for Daylite CRM. Firmware at 7.5.1, No guest network enabled.
Troubleshooting included:
Switched ISP from ADSL to Cable (completely different technology and modems)
Switched router out and replaced with identical router - reconfigured manually
Turned on interference robustness
Changed both wireless channels
Changed out power supply and put both modem and router on UPS

So you mean get an AirPort Express and use it as an "extension" of my current network?

The fact that my Airport Express has been working rock solidly and none of my 5th Gen airport extremes (I have changed them out with Apple 3 times) last more than an hour makes me wonder if this problem is specific to the 5th gen. Does anyone with a 3rd or 4th gen have this problem? How about the newest tower version of the Extreme?

I Picked up a 4th gen extreme from craigslist. it is also rock solid. I am using it now instead of the airport express. No dropped connections in 3 days. I really think the 5th gen is more susceptible to this problem.

I believe I have solved my problem. I turned off and unplugged every wireless device in my house. I then reinstalled the 5th gen Extreme. I left it that way for hours with no disconnect. every few hours I would turn on another device and leave it that way waiting to see if I experienced a disconnect. This morning I reconnected a Windows PC that uses a Rosewill usb wifi adapter. 30 minutes later I saw my first disconnect of the weekend. I unplugged the Rosewill USB adapter and have not experienced a disconnect since. I will try using a different adapter with this PC to determine if it is the PC or the adapter causing the problem.

This worked. No disconnects at all. I used another Extreme as a wireless adapter connected to my Windows PC and everything works fine.

I strongly recommend following the steps I did to learn if one wireless device is the source of a disconnect problem. It takes a few hours or days but at least you will know.

So I'm having a similar problem with a 2nd gen airport express where it becomes invisible on my network after a few minutes. I need to reconfigure it to get it to work again and then it's only a few minutes of use. The problem happens when wired or wireless and I've configured the express to match the 3rd party router's to no avail (I may have not done something correctly however, I'm no expert). Full details found here https://discussions.apple.com/activity?streamSource=connections

Thanks in advance. I see many people are having similar issues to me but I cant find a solution

So I had this problem for a week after moving my AEBS to another location in my house and it drove me nuts because I never changed anything.  I reset over and over and still nothing.  Rebuilt the whole connection and still nothing.   Called my ISP and they were useless as usual.  The last thing I did was in Airport Utility I made the smallest of adjustments that had the biggest result.  Under the internet tab click internet options.  Change PPP connection from Always on to Automatic and PPPoe disconnect to never.  Been online for 7+ hours and no disconnect.  Was lucky to get 4 before.   Hope that helps others using DSL and PPPoE.

Thanks--this is exactly what was needed on my Comcast cable connection. Was beginning to suspect my hardware was on the way out...

I changed my "Configure IPv6" to Link-local only. This has fix my issue. My internet would drop 4-6 times a day, now I have not had one issue since then. I am hooked up to a Cisco DPC3010 modem.

Don't understand why but the instructions in this post solved our dropped connections problem between a Cox modem and an Airport Extreme

    Re: Airport Extreme dropping connection

After setting IPv6 Mode to tunnel, our connection stayed up for 3 weeks solid. To test this, I set it back to the default settings and within 12 hours, the connection was lost again.

Thank you for this.  Apple tech support said I can only do this with an Apple product like a Mac or IPhone.  I have a Windows 7 PC and that's not true.  For those PC Users, you open the Airport Utility and double click on your router name on the left then click Advanced and change the TCP/IP to what you said, Link-local only.  Did that this past Monday and have not had one connection drop.  Cox Communications denies there's a problem but obviously they changed something.  I've very grateful, as are several people I've already told about this.

We have been experiencing the same problem now for months. Our connection keeps dropping and then we have to unplug the modem and unplug the router to get connection again. We are using the Airport Extreme with a Motorola Surfboard SB6141 and we have Cox internet. We are trying this today. Hoping it works.
