I purchased the AirPod pros and also had an allergic reaction to the silicone tips. I definitely would recommend that if anyone experiences itching they stop using this as it may be that there is an allergy to the tips. Follow up with a dr if unsure to avoid an ear infection.

  • Airpod Pro user with an allergy to Apple's Airpod Pro tips
  • I have tried 3 other non-Apple tips and have the same type of allergic reaction.
  • Contamination with small amounts of latex or nickel is suspected, but I have no lab to test for such things.
  • This could also be a silicone allergy, which is not unheard of but has been described - though "rare" is the term used.
    • It is possible that what we observe with Apple's silicone tips is the same "rare" allergic response - but now you have 100 million+ users (versus some medical devices that might have 100 total patients).
    • If only 0.1% of people have this allergy, that would be 100,000+ people - if 1% of those people post their problem on this thread, it may appear that the problem is wide-spread when in reality it is only a tiny fraction of the user base.

The time I've been using the AirPods Pro, it is evident that the ear tips aren't the only problem with these earbuds. I am going to move forward with opening another case about my issue.

I'm still having problems with ear drainage and sores. The material from the AirPods seems like the problem more so. Looks like I'll be going to another company for open earbuds that don't go in the ear at all. It's much safer for our ear canal.

Posting here so I can log my experience with the AirPod Pro ear tips. I’ve had mine for a year and never had an issue until I wore them for an extended period in warmer weather and my GP found I had a condition akin to Swimmer’s Ear (Otitis Externa). I have a steroid ear drop to flush my ears and help balance them out which has worked for a while. I have cleaned my APP thoroughly, even going as far as to wipe them down with a safe disinfectant solution to counteract any nasties that may be still present.

I had a break from them for a few weeks and my ears were fine. Wore them for over an hour yesterday and I’ve woken up to a lot of drainage this morning overnight.
