Bought the APP recently and used them about 7-8 hours in total. Here is my current status.

What do you use instead of AirPods?
Alas, I spoke too soon. The foam tips have not resolved the situation, after all. I wore them for 45 mins, yesterday, after trying them for 5 minutes. Unfortunately, I barely slept due to drainage problems and all my symptoms have now returned 😭
Ladyanglaise,
UInfortunately you are not the first to make that premature leap of faith and I'm sure you won't be the last. As I've written on here over the past several months - allergic reaction to the silicon tips is not the cause of the problem. It's just a shame that this agenda keeps being pushed. I will sacrifice my ears to a tip-less APP experinece today and I'm sure that I will be joining you in the soggy ear brigade later this evening - just to prove a point!
Personally, I've found that the quickest path to recovery is to scrunch up some tissue or compress some cotton wool into the ear (not too far just the outside where the tip was/where the weeping is originating from ) and sleep with it overnight. Give it a tug after about 24 hours and it will hurt a bit as you pull the scab off. Then use some hot salty water and some q-tips to wash the area and try your best to leave it well alone for a week (easier said than done I know!). After that I have had dead skin shedding and then ears return to normal. By the way I'm not a doctor and this isn't advice so proceed at your own risk - got to cover myself!
Regardless of the initial cause(s) (over a year of the sufferers here researching anecdotally without help from the manufacturer has failed to uncover any conclusive cause), you can develop a near immediate allergic response once the symptoms develop; it may then be triggered by putting anything similar in your ear for the more serious cases.
Again, anecdotally, if I put the APPs in my ears for even a few minutes, not powered on, my ears (immune system) will react.
The last time I tried using them regularly, before I realized the consequences, it took 2 - 3 months for all my symptoms to dissipate.
Good luck test subjects! I appreciate the effort, but I worry for you all.
As an ex-user of Powerbeats Pro I experienced the exact same as all of you.
It took about 3-4 month before the problems erupted. And boy did they erupt. Not knowing the cause I then went to 3 doctors and got all sorts of treatments. My ears were so messed up I wouldn't consider using in-ear headphones. After the problems receded I started using the PBP again and the problems returned shortly. (No other allergies before or after.) I obviously got suspicious, found all these identical stories online and stopped using the PBPs. After about 3 weeks normality returned.
Apple said I just had to clean them. I changed to a different brand silicone plugs, taped the behind-the-ear-loop.
Same thing happened, and amazingly fast, within half an hour. No other in-ear headphones I have cause problems.
My theory is off-gassing of glues inside - cyanoacrylates or something.
So, I wanted my money back, or some sort of compensation. Was in the Apple Support loop for 3/4 year, sent all kinds of documentation, no refund. They said they warn about harmful materials (nickel and acrylates) on their website and sent a link to prove it, so they are therefore not liable.
My nine year old daughter asked why they are not liable.
I said because they state that the materials used can be harmful, so therefore I am the problem.
"But if they already know they are using materials that can be harmful, they are responsible for still using them, no?", she asked.
"They should be using materials that do not harm anyone!", she continued.
Hard to fault that logic.
Apple disagrees with her and her daddy, though.
Be safe. Ciao.
I’ve enjoyed AirPods, was eager to get the AirPods Pro but had severe allergic reaction to the tips, waited for that to clear and currently using AirPods 3. (My ear specialist said a few other patients had the same allergic reaction to AiPods Pro tips.)
Why can’t Apple simply offer tips for AirPods Pro made from lucite? (Many audiologists automatically order custom ear molds out of lucite instead of silicone custom ear molds. I’m wondering if the lab that makes custom ear molds for these audiologists might do the same for my AirPods Pro???)
Apple wants to feature products with health features, particularly Apple Watch. I’m shocked the company is not yet responsive to one small thing that can cause so much misery, medical appointments, need for medication and in extreme cases loss of hearing.
I agree it is the silicone tips. I have the old pods no tops no problems. But they don’t fit nearly as well as these do. I gave Bose, etc these were the first too fit great. I’m sure 3rd party will be out shortly.
I also had a very bad and very immediate reaction to the AirPods Pro. I kept using them on an 8hr + airplane trip (x2) and during the vacation trip. Periodically taking them out and itching my ears and wondering why my ears kept itching.
When I came back from the trip, I Googled “itching AirPods Pro”. Then I found this and it explained a lot. I had bad ear drainage in my left ear that turned into a sinus infection but, I hadn’t realized why till too late.
I was able to return them at a local Apple Store because it was within a couple of days past their Holiday Return policy.
So I just wanted to add my name to the list.
I got these tips from amazon but have found that I am not only allergic to the tips but the AirPod as well. Very frustrating and scary to think so many people are experiencing this issue.

I also recently discovered the allergy to my Apple Beats Pro. It took almost six months. I was convinced that I had a perforated eardrum on my right year. I generally only wear one ABP for driving.
My symptoms include: Clear drainage , rash for a week or so, itching, and a rash with similar clear fluid on my outer ear where the ear retainer is.
I can’t believe it took so long to connect the pieces. Apple: Please isolate the chemical that is causing so many issues. And let people know that your product is a likely culprit to their inner ear infection.
Get your allergist who diagnosed your allergy to sign a letter to send a letter to Apple asking what is in the AirPod. Unless more than 1% have an allergy I doubt you will see a change as a new formula could affect more people.
So, to be clear, I'm NOT a doctor, but based on what I've read, the symptoms most folks are describing (that include clearest discharge, etc.) are very likely an allergic reaction of some sort. (Which seems to be triggering bouts of ear eczema. If that IS the case, I don't think suppressing the itching topically is your best bet - it'll likely get worse, and eczema can get infected. I think if you are having some kind of allergic reaction, you need to remove the stimulus.
I do get it, asI LOVE these too. I am currently cycling through all the tips not made by apple on Amazon to see if any will let me wear them without the reaction. (No luck so far.)
I purchased the PZOZ airpods Pro Eartips and so far they are working for me, these are weird foam tips but work. and I also found the AllBingo Services airpod ear that covers the body of the earphones to its not touching my ear, work as well. Both are inexpensive and found on Amazon.
Did you see the link put up pdxtony? This the UK site link, https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B085FS9D3M/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
They have been recommended by more than one person, they are not expensive so Ive brought set to try, maybe something for you to look at?
I actually getting excited at the thought that i will be able to use them again!
Hi, I've made an appointment for a call back, but I am unsure what they can do. I've already spoken to my business team who don't think apple has come up with any other type of tip.
I think i've opened this appointment under the correct option, I went for 'Setting & usage'.
Thank you
