How do you sync a laptop computer to an iPhone?

So I bought a laptop three years ago, but I never figured out how to do this. I had a MacBook air which I imported music from my CDs into. I then hooked up my iPhone and did a sync so that the CD music would also be on my iPhone. Then I bought a new MacBook pro. Since I didn't have iCloud, I didn't know how to sync the music that I had on my iPhone with the new MacBook pro. I never did a sync because from my understanding, if I sync my iPhone with my new MacBook pro laptop, it will blow away all the files not on the MacBook Pro laptop. Essentially, it will make the iPhone match the MacBook pro. Since three years ago, I have added music to my iPhone through the MacBook pro so the only current music library I have with EVERYTHING in it is on my iPhone.

What I need to know is how I can make the MacBook Pro iTunes library sync to the library on my iPhone?

Every article I find online talks about how you can sync the iPhone to the computer but not the other way around. I don't see a button that says, "Sync computer to iPhone". Is there a way to do this or am I out of luck? Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

Thanks, I eventually found your post and it helped me out a lot. I still think it's ridiculous that you have to pay so much money to essentially get a feature that should be built in. If I can go from laptop to iPhone, why can't I go in the opposite direction? It's like Apple wants to force you into iCloud. Hmmm, maybe that is why.
