having a problem with iPhotos, it won't close

I can't get iPhotos to close. Every time try to open iPhotos or shut down my imac the computer says it can't shut down because iPhotos is still open. I can't open it because it says it is closing the library. what can I do to fix this?

Under the Apple Menu, top left of your screen, use the Force Quit command.
