Welcome. Drag Audacity from its folder into Applications. When it's in the folder the path is wrong. It shouldn't have a line through it.. Which version of Audacity are you using? The current version is 2.3.3.0 although 2.3.2.0 should work also.
I trashed all Audacity items and downloaded Audacity again from wwwww.Fosshub.com.
Icons in my Applications are now:
1) Audacity with no line through it.
2) audacity-tacos-2.3.3.dmg
When I enter the command into Terminal, the message in a pop-up window is; "Audacity" cannot be opened because the identity of the developer cannot be confirmed. Your security preferences allow installation of only apps from the App Store and identified developers.
Entering Audacity into my iMac using the original Audacity CD provides only a dmg file and no Audacity icon.
I changed Security setting to allow opening Audacity. A pop-up window then appeared with the message:
"Audacity" cannot be opened because Apple cannot check for malicious software. This software needs to be updated. Contact the developer for more information.
Basically I use the command from this page: https://www.audacityteam.org/macos-10-15-catalina-is-not-yet-supported-by-audacity/
open /Applications/Audacity.app/Contents/MacOS/Audacity
I have to modify it because I don't have Audacity in the Applications folder.
I am really baffled by all this. Entering the command "open / Applications/Audacity.app/Contents/MacOS/Audacity"
in Terminal is exactly what I did many times before posting my problem on Apple Community. I tried that command once again and it did not work. Audacity is in my Applications folder.
That was a typing error. I had entered the command correctly in Terminal. That included a space between "open" and the first /.
Upon re-entering the command, each time, I get the same message:
"The file /Applications/Audacity.app/Contents/MacOS/Audacity does not exist".
For Information: In Applications, Audacity is in a folder which when opened shows an Audacity icon with a line through it.
Thanks much for your help.
I followed the complete procedure for getting Audacity to work including changing to the Login shell " /bin/zsh" in User Gruops/Advanced Options. Audacity still does not work.
FWIW, not sure what you are doing or not doing but the instructions to launch Audacity from the Terminal do work.
Edit: Audacity running on Catalina 10.15.1. Voice recording.
What instruction to launch Audacity do you type into Terminal?
FWIW, there's no space between / and Applications which is what you typed.
I made a couple more attempts and for some reason Audacity is now working on my iMac.
Thanks once again for your help. I would have not tried again to get Audacity operating otherwise.
FWIW i am not, use to, what it means.here from my Country?
I Google it: FWIW,and it means: "For what it means" why not say so instead of FWIW???
I am not from U.S. but from Europe, and so it is!
FWIW means "for what its worth"
It is god to know! My friend!
