For the tax question, ask Apple or your government tax office. As to whether the phone will work with carriers outside China, unless it's locked to a carrier in China, it likely will. Some features on a phone made and sold in China are specific to China. For example, you will never be able to mute the camera shutter sound, even if you use the mute switch on the side of the camera, regardless of where in the world you'll use the phone. Also, warranty on iPhone is NOT international. Should you have an issue requiring service or replacement, the phone will need to be physically returned to China for resolution.

In several countries (the largest and one involving a lot of business trips being China) you cannot use an eSIM with the carriers there. So there have been many posts in the iPhone Hardware forum asking where to buy an iPhone with dual physical SIMs rather than one physical SIM and one eSIM. The only places to buy that particular iPhone is China, Hong Kong, and Macau.

The India phone, like those in the US and other places have ONE physical SIM and ONE eSIM, not two physical SIMS and one eSIM.

So thanks for the information about the eSIM not being available in China, which I knew but I explained why people go to China, Hong Kong and Macau to get the dual physical SIM model.

Let us recap,

You said, "Out of curiosity, why would you want to buy Apple products while on holiday in China when they are readily available in India? Just to beat or reduce the tax?"

I then responded TO YOU, regarding your statement, "My guess would be they want a model would dual physical SIMs."

You then responded with something about dual sims with eSIMS in India, or something and I responded that there have been many posts in the iPhone forum for people who want the dual physical SIM, not the physical SIM/eSIM, iPhone which is only available in China, Hong Kong, and Macau.

I've never responded to the OP which is clearly focused on taxes, we agree on that and I have made no attempt to speculate regarding that. I only answered, with a possible answer for the OP but I really don't care, what is different about the iPhone in China and why people go through the trouble to buy them there.

Perhaps you weren't clear between an iPhone with dual physical SIMs and a dual SIM iPhone with one physical SIM and one eSIM?
