Free alternative to Inkscape vector program?

Since my Inkscape application no longer works with my Mac (Mojave 10.14.6), I'm wondering if anyone can vouch for another free or inexpensive vector program (am trying to avoid the Adobe money pit). I need to trace an image into a vector SVG and add color and thicken the lines.

Thanks for any recommendations!

I just figured out that my Inkscape was not opening because security downloads had been activated.

It now seems to be working after I went through clicking the below:

System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General > Allow apps downloaded from ... Inkscape

If Inkscape 0.92.4 isn’t working on Mojave, check with the Inkscape folks?

Inkscape is 32-bit and should work with Mojave, though not with Catalina.

If you’re on Catalina and not Mojave, try the Inkscape 64-bit beta?

If you’re not yet on Catalina, maybe wait before upgrading? Both Mojave and High Sierra should be getting security patches.

Research the Inkscape alternatives? There aren’t all that many alternatives listed, and you’ll probably want to try a few of the free or freemium options anyway.
