My delete key is backspacing - erasing characters to its left

Not sure what I've done but my delete key is not working properly. It is erasing characters to its right instead of characters to its left like it usually would. Additionally my left and right arrows are skipping to the end of the line or word instead of to the next character. The screenshot functions on my computer are also not working . not sure if its related. the actual keys are completely fine, words/letters will delete if I highlight them or click the cursor in front of the letter. Thanks in advance :)

Typically holding the function key will change the direction of deleting a character.

>System Preferences>Keyboard>

I would look here for a clue, and restore defaults both shortcuts & keyboard (Modifier keys.)

If all this looks to be in order try resetting NVRAM/PRAM http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379

To trouble shoot further you can:

Try a SafeBoot https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262

Takes noticeable longer to get to the login screen, does a 5-15 minute disk repair before it fully boots up, and certain system caches get cleared and rebuilt, including dynamic loader cache, etc. Login and test. Reboot and test.

This test will tell you if third party interference; extensions etc are not loaded in safe boot mode.

Test issue in another user (or guest user) account https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204443

This will tell you if it a universal issue or isolated to your user/admin account.
