Coda problem

Using Coda 2.75 and having a problem connecting via FTP. Using the same FTP settings in Transmit 4.4.13 and connection works fine. Contacted CODA several days ago and have not received a response.

Do the Coda Preferences allow you to designate Transmit as your FTP agent? Apple removed FTP from macOS a few years back, and applications that still expect that functionality to exist will not have access to an FTP solution — if not the first sentence.

Transmit 5 has introduced new server protocols that are not presently supported in Coda 2, and will be grayed out in Panic Sync. Presumably, you have seen this Panic page.

Panic is hard at work on their next editor, Nova which is in beta now. This still should not be an excuse for not getting back to you in a reasonable (several days ago is not reasonable) timeframe. Contact them again.

You are aware that FTP is an unmitigated cesspool of massive insecurity and complete incompatible with modern networks and modern network security, yes? Given FTP splatters your credentials all over the net, please just go ahead and post the server and all of those login credentials here and we’ll run all the checks for you. FTP is best considered a radioactive crater, and avoided.

Put differently, migrate to and use sftp if at all possible. That might share three letters and similar purpose with FTP, but is a very different implementation. Otherwise, you’ll be chasing firewall rules and FTP transfer modes and credentials leaks... forever.

As for two days’ lack-of-turnaround, the US is just returning from a long holiday weekend. Might want to give Panic (the vendor of Coda) a weekday or two here to read and answer.

Fun fact: FTP is older than IP itself, the network you’re using here.
