New iPhone X

Hi

Can anyone confirm if purchasing a new iPhone X through a resale store in Australia should have a 12month warranty when the seller states it was a display/demo phone?

It is in the original box but seller is stating it only has a 6 month warranty.

They are also not releasing the IMEI number to check with Apple for security reasons.

Will Apple service this phone after 6months of use if required?

Thankyou

iPhone X

Here's what I found about Apple's one year warranty:

...
Apple warrants the Apple-branded iPhone, iPad, iPod, Apple TV or HomePod hardware product and the Apple-branded accessories contained in the original packaging (“Apple Product”) against defects in materials and workmanship when used normally in accordance with Apple's published guidelines for a period of ONE (1) YEAR from the date of original retail purchase by the end-user purchaser ("Warranty Period"). Apple’s published guidelines include but are not limited to information contained in technical specifications, user manuals and service communications.

I guess the issue could be the "original packaging" mentioned in the warranty.

Since the package has been opened and the phone probably has been used for demo purposes, the warranty period might have startet, when the seller opened the package to put it on display.

I would rather buy a refurbished iPhone than a device that has been on display in a store and used by many other people.

Thanks

The phone I purchased was a display phone in excellent condition with no sign of use and has also not been previously activated, original battery is at 100%.

I have purchased refurbished phones in the past which have not been as good.

As long as Apple can physically service the phone ie. change batteries etc. at cost out of warranty I will be ok.

We rang Apple to confirm this was the case by stating the phones IEMI number with serial and they said they would still complete any work such as changing batteries etc. when it needed out of warranty.

The phone is from Australian stock and even though it’s a display phone in its original box they said they will complete work required within an Apple store when at cost of course so I think all is ok.

Hi

Thanks for your reply

We have already activated the phone and received an iOS update.

We also have noticed the phone is registered with Apple but out of warranty.

Apple Australia are still stating that the phone is ok to use and they will replace batteries if needed at cost.

The store may of had the phone authorised by Apple for resale.

Are you from Apple Australia?

Demo modes should not be sold. Apple requires all demo phones furnished to stores be returned to them once they are no longer used. They are for demo purposes only, and should have been returned to Apple.

The store should not be selling them for any reason.

Demo modes are not covered by warranty, since the store should directly send the phone back within their Apple agreement to have it fixed.

Do not buy a Demo phone. Its totally possible you will not be able to remove the demo software from the iPhone.
