monitor child's phone

I'm sure I'm preaching to deaf ears but I really wish Apple provided an effective app to monitor my child's iphone usage including, texts, emails, browsing activity, social media monitoring, keywords, etc. It is a very dangerous and confusing world for young people now and I truly believe that it is the responsibility of companies like Apple, MS, etc. to provide these tools to parents. I'm not interested in the many answers offered on this site that encourage the use of "Screen Time" as it's not the time that they spend on the device that I'm concerned with...it's the activity. All of the parental monitoring software i've found is limited on IOS due to Apple's secure firewalls. To be clear, I'm very grateful that IOS is so secure, which is why I feel it is Apple's responsibility to offer an effective solution to parents. You can't just block your kid from accessing certain apps, as they'll just find new apps to use to communicate. I actually want to see what my child is saying and doing on his phone to stay a step ahead of any dangerous activity or signs that he's headed down a bad path.

If anyone has had success with any of the available software for monitoring activity I'd love to hear your experiences.

What you are asking for is not technologically feasible, especially if you let your child install any apps they want to install. The parental controls on the phone allow you to prevent installation of apps without your approval. But you still will not be able to monitor their every message other than the old fashioned way of examining the phone periodically or backing it up and using backup extractor software to view what they have used the phone for.

Apple's secure firewalls protect your child. The monitoring software, as you discovered, bypasses Apple's security. That can allow you to monitor them, but it also allows any hackers or predators to monitor them, which is a much greater threat to their safety than any message conversations they may have.

I understand your concern as I am a parent emeritus, but this is a really complex issue. ("For every complex problem, there is a simple solution - and it is wrong" - paraphrase of the original quote but close enough). If you implement a way to spy on your child, how do you keep it limited to that purpose only, and not allow it to be used to spy on an ex, or a soon-to-be ex, or on someone being stalked, or how do you prevent a business or government from spying on people in general? If there was a general solution I could support it, but as an expert in cybersecurity I don't see a way to such limit it to a narrow target. I'm open to ideas, but I haven't seen one yet that would actually work without creating bigger problems. All of the ones currently available for both Apple products and Android phones have the same issues.

Thank you for your reply Lawrence. As I mentioned, I understand and appreciate Apple's secure firewalls and I understand that they are the reason why 3rd party monitoring apps won't work with IOS. I have absolutely no interest in jailbreaking my kid's phone and opening him up to unknown dangers. That is why it is my strong opinion that it is Apple's responsibility to provide their own monitoring software for parents to help keep their kids safe. You can block all the apps you want but unless you're able to see your child's activity (when they think nobody is watching) you'll never be able to stay a step ahead of them. We have open communication with our child but kids are susceptible to peer pressure and acting out of character to gain acceptance, respect, attention, etc. I'm just a frustrated and caring parent and since these wonderful inventions allow us (and our children) to communicate with the world and have access to the world like never before, I just feel it is Apple's responsibility to aid parents in keeping their kids safe.
