my ipad is asking for my computer password and my phone password

I recently changed my iCloud password, and my iPad prompted me to update my Apple Id settings.

I provided my new apple ID password, and then I was shown a screen asking me to provide the password I use to log into my mac computer... I didn't provide my password as I've never seen this before.

Why does my iPad need my computer password?

Later when I tried again and it asked for the passcode I use to log into my iPhone.

I spoke to a support agent who said this was the expected behavior, and they sent me this link to read more: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204915

However, the link seems to be talking about 'verification codes' which is not what my iPad was asking for. My iPad was asking for my passcode for my iPhone, and also my password that I use to login to my Mac. So I'm still at a loss. I am probably going to reach out to support again.

I called back support and they said this is NOT the expected behavior. Still waiting to hear what is going on.
