It cannot be done, your 2010 must be replaced by a newer Mac if you want to run Mojave or later. Mojave and later versions of Mac OS require the GPU supports Metal ( Metal - Apple Developer ) and that was not available until 2012 and later iMacs. No it cannot be retrofitted and no there is no other work around. The ONLY solution is replacing the computer if you want to run anything later than High Sierra 10.13.6.

Thanks. Goodness. It's all working great apart from not updating the OS. Well, now I know. And I have another question now about my laptop MacBook Air which has OS 10.8.5 Mountain Lion. I would like to have them both on the same OS. Can the MacBook Air with OS Mountain Lion be upgraded to High Sierra?
The 2010 model can not be upgraded beyond Mac OS X High Sierra.
I would have no idea without know which MacBook Air model year you own.
