Recovering Safari History

Hi,

I’m having a bit of a nightmare! Basically, I’ve written an essay for University but I’ve referenced it incorrectly and now need to go back and find the websites I got information from so I can reference my work properly. However, I’ve cleared my safari history recently and can’t remember the name of the sites I used. I went back to ‘advanced’ and looked in ‘website data’ but there was still no sign of the sites I used. I was just wondering. Whether there’s any chance or method at all of recovering deleted safari history so I can access these sites? If not I’ll have to start again! Thanks!

Hi frostom,

It sounds like you deleted your Safari history and I want to help.

You might be able to recover an older version of your Safari history if you have Time Machine set up.

Your Safari history is stored in the History.db file located at ~/Library/Safari/

First, make sure Safari is closed.

Open Finder, click Go in the menu bar, then click Go to Folder and enter ~/Library/Safari/

Next, you can follow the steps here to restore the older version of the History.db file:

Use Time Machine to restore deleted files or older files - Apple Support

Good luck!
