iPod won't turn off

My iPod won't turn off like it should. The only way it does is by connecting it to the computer.

Whenever I try to turn it off, it doesn't turn off. It will continue to play music. I can control it as if it was on. Basically, it's like it's on, but it is in the off position.

Sometimes, it will just "die," too. It's kind of random, usually when my iPod has been idle for a while. But it just turns off. Even in the on position, the controls don't do anything. It doesn't play any music.

The only way to fix those issues is by connecting my iPod to my computer. Yes, I connect it while it is in the "off" position. If I just connect it to my computer and then disconnect it, it will turn on again. But it still won't turn off.

I've tried to reset it, but that doesn't work at all.

Just for reference, my iPod is a second generation iPod Shuffle.
