whatever you purchased was purchased from Microsoft. What version of Office were you using before this happened?

O365 has always been subscription based.

if you purchased this with your MS ID you can find the Serial #'s for previous versions by logging in here

the alternative is to use Apples Pages, Numbers and Keynote for your Word, Excel and Powerpoint requirements respectively. The Apple programs are free and entirely interchangeable with MSOffice.

No. You can purchase the newer version of Office if you prefer. Office for Home & Student is $149 USD.

Read my post. I indicated what versions of Office work with Catalina. I would upgrade my Office before even thinking of reverting to a previous operating system just to run Office 2011.

Microsoft Office 2016 (updated), Office 2019, and Office 365 all work with Catalina.
