can not open Epson Scan 2.pkg driver software running OS X 10.15.1

I can not open Epson Scan 2.pkg driver software (nor Epson Scanner ICA Driver.pkg) running OS X 10.15.1. Even when selecting "Open with Installer app (default)" from right click pull down menu. Nothing happens, no error message, no system message. Trying to install for Epson V-550 scanner. I have Epson Software Updater.app 2.4.1 installed, and it seems to be running ok. But when I open it, it wants to update the Updater. I ok that, but the install fails and I get "Install failed, Reboot the OS X and try again." did that but no change. Couldn't find new Updater on Epson website to download. Just updated to Catalina yesterday. Am i missing some security aspect of OS X that is preventing the .pkg s from opening? On Epson's site for scanner I see following "Please note, at this time, the drivers for Mac OS 10.15.x do not support the Digital ICE functions of the V550 or V600 scanners." I took this to mean software might not provide all the abilities of scanner, but is this why .pkg software won't even open?

JUST found Epson updater v 2.3.3 to download, will try process again. Tried, same issue, Updater.pkg won't open at all.

I found updated Updater, it was under a pull down Utililities menu down below the two software packages on the Epson support page for the product. Then every thing worked. Don't know why trying to run the pkg files didn't at least generate an error or system message.
