My new Apple Watch Series 3 will not connect with my iPhone 6.

My new Apple Watch Series 3 will not connect with my iPhone 6. Every time I try to pair the watch with my phone, the error message says "iPhone is out of date," even though I am completely updated on my phone to IOS 12.4.4. The only thing I can do on the watch is try to pair because it is new. Any suggestions?

The currently shipping Apple Watch Series 3 and 5 require an iPhone 6s, SE, 7 or newer running iOS 13.


The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus top out at iOS 12 and cannot upgrade to iOS 13.
