Unable to read new AOL mail on iPad or iPhone following issue with SPAM

I recently had over 1000 spam emails show up one day in my regular mailbox on my AOL account (not my spam box). I reset my password and marked them all as spam on my MacBook and then deleted them. I am still having more than usual spam mails make it into my mailbox, but feel like I have that under control. My mail works fine on my MacBook now.

However, I am not unable to read my AOL emails on my iPad or iPhone. It just spins, I assume trying to catch up with all of the older emails that were deleted. I've tried resetting and opening and leaving the iPad open to aol mail, and nothing seems to enable me to open recent AOL mail on my iPad /iPhone after November 27, which was the date of the big SPAM dump into my account. I receive both my gmail and aol mail on my iPad. Do I just delete and reinstall AOL? Or??

Is this an iCloud issue? An AOL issue? I'm not even certain how to categorize it to get the help I need.

Thank you. I deleted AOL from my iPhone and iPad and reinstalled it on them, and that did the trick. From what I understand from another person who had a similar issue, my iCloud mail was never able to catch up with the 1000+ spam emails that ended up in my inbox. Even after sending them to SPAM, and then deleting them on my MacBook, iCloud was apparently trying to catch up. After changing my password, and continuing to delete the stray spam mail that makes it past the filter, I think I have things under control again.
