Please help! firelite model #FWFL120-N macbook pro will not fit anywhere
Hi, my regular old white macbook crashed days ago. What I have left is on my external hard drive my firelite. It is a lot of music, all of my music in fact thank goodness and also my photos. I read before buying my computer that there IS a firelite slot... am I going crazy here? I looked all over, tried inserting it.. but no dice. I really need this because to me this is the only way to get what files I had left (already lost so much I don't even want to think about it!)
Any help or do I have to go into the store and have them have a joyous time of trying to transfer hours upon hours of stuff (more than likely)? This is crazy.
The Firelite is an external hard disc with either Firewire or USB interface, it cannot be "inserted" in a MacBook Pro, you need to connect it with a USB or Firewire cable and then copy/restore the data across to your new Mac.
Well. Yeah. I should have made myself clear. The USB does not fit in any of the slots. I'm not that slow haha. On my old Macbook is fit on like near the top one on the left and on this one none of them fit. It's not a regular USB cord, it's a special one for the firelite I believe and... all my stuff is on here... and if there isn't an input for it I don't know what to do?
Somehow or other you managed to copy all your music and photos onto the FireLite drive. Whatever cable you used to connect the drive to the computer when you did that, use it again now. It will have one end that fits a standard USB port on your computer, and its other end will fit the smaller USB port on your FireLite drive. If you didn't have such a cable, you wouldn't have been able to get your files onto the external drive in the first place.
The places where you plug cables in are called ports, not slots. Slots are different.
I think eww has explained it well - you should have a cable with a small 'custom' plug at one end that fits the firelite and the other end will be a regular USB plug (there are 2 USB sockets on your MacBook Pro)
Or, was it a Firewire model in which case it's possible that had a Firewire 400 plug on the end (and your new macBook Pro has a Firewire 800 socket) ? If so Google "Firewire 400 800 adapter" and you will find what you need e.g.

I think what I need is an adapter. Like you said. I just don't know if that's the right one or what but the thing is that I had copied everything onto it from my OLD COMPUTER. Which was a regular Macbook in white, very old, not a Macbook Pro. The drive is a couple years old too but I need to move the files from that onto my Pro. And the thing doesn't fit how it fit into my Macbook perfectly. So yeah, I think I need a converter - I'll take a look at that one and get back to you about it. But thanks. I know I don't use the 'proper terms' necessarily but I do know what I am talking about, somewhat, or else I wouldn't have gotten this far. 😉 So sorry for confusion.
