Poor Quality MacBook Pro Screen Camera Images

The quality of images / videos / FaceTime sessions captured through my screen camera has deteriorated and is now very blurry. Looking at the screen surface it appears to be "worn" / covered with micro-scratches, but only over the camera area. Basically, every time the MacBook is closed, the camera area comes into contact with the base of the MacBook. The trackpad is slightly recessed and this ensures that the closing contact is with the camera area.

So two questions:

  1. Does anybody have any idea how I could "repair" the screen across the camera area? [I've tried cleaning with detergent but have not yet tried any rubbing compound!]
  2. Why don't Apple design the MacBook with a slight recess opposite the camera in the closed position to avoid this problem?

Thanks for your input.

Hello Drascombe-Steve.

Welcome to Apple Support Communities.

If I'm understanding correctly, the camera on your MacBook Pro is making contact with the trackpad, and the quality of images is being affected. I will be glad to assist.

I would recommend having your MacBook Pro inspected by an Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider. Here's how to locate one:
