You could use the USB-A to USB-C cable that was suggested, but a USB-A to USB-C adapter would work too to connect the cable that comes with the iPhone. I just bought one yesterday for $1.50 at a store called Daiso. I have a few of those already, but they were all more expensive. One was $15 with a 2m Lightning to USB-A cable, and the other was a pair
There are a variety of adapters/hubs that might work to convert USB-C to USB-A.
The one I bought is the gold one here, although it comes in maybe three or four colors:

Lightning to USB cable.
You can buy them even at a gas station.
What happened with the cable which came with your iPhone?
I hate to sound dull, but the there's no USB port on my MacBook Air
Neither end of the cord that came with my phone will fit into my MacBook Air
If your Macbook doesn't have a standard USB port, then it has to have a USB C port.
You can purchase this cable from Apple either online or in-store or from your Best Buy Store too --> https://www.apple.com/shop/product/MX0K2AM/A/usb-c-to-lightning-cable-1-m?fnode=97&fs=f%3Dcable%26fh%3D458e%252B45c4
thanks so much!
You're most welcome.
