Iphone 8 will not import Pictures to PC

Hi. Hoping someone can help. I am not able to transport pictures from my iPhone 8 to my pc. My USB cable is fine. The photo app has a little difficulty finding my phone, then finds it. Then finds the pictures...……...but then the photo app just sits there and eventually times out. No photos transferred to my pc. is there another way to load from my phone to pc. thanks.
