all batteries deteriorate over time
completely draining it is a bad idea that harm the battery
you can slow their demise a but try reading

No, Tereza, that's not a good practice with modern Li-Ion batteries.
Battery health is measured in charging cycles:
1 cycle = from 0 to 100%
1/2 cycle = from 50 to 100%
1/4 cycle = from 75 to 100%.. and so on.
IPhones batteries can support about 500 cycles. Charge it whenever you want.
Since 2008, when I bought my first iPhone 3g, I charge my iphone overnight, everynight (no way to overcharge the battery, since, when it reaches 100%, the iPhone automatically stops charging). The only precaution I suggest is: when possible, do not let the battery level go down below 20%.
My batteries have always lasted at least 2.5-3 years.

Giulio
