iPad Pro swiping right when highlighting

I am trying to help a friend with an iPad Pro. When highlighting text in an app the page swipes to the right. Does anyone know how to keep the page from swiping when highlighting? This happens whether using finger or stylus. Thanks for any help you can give me.
