How long will it take for my 235,000 song files to be loaded from external hd into the new Music app?

Are they staying on the external drive, or is Music trying to make copies on the internal drive as it goes? Either way I think it will be a long operation. I don't have enough experience to offer a ball park, but you can share your results.
