Hello,

This is due to iPod not supporting movies in high definition (or higher). Since iPod classic was obsoleted nearly a decade ago it was never designed to work with the kinds of movies that are available today.

However, there is a potential workaround.

If you are using iTunes:

Open iTunes Preferences

If you are using the Apple TV on macOS 10.15 Catalina:

Choose the TV Menu > Preferences

Open Playback > Download Quality > SD

Delete the movie from your movies library and re-download it. It should now download in SD (if a SD version is available). You can then try and synchronize it to your iPod.
